Alone in Kyoto

The title of this blog is one of the songs from 'Lost in Translation', which i saw yesterday night. Such a gentle and humorous and human story. Absolutely loved it. Bill Murray was fantastic and you really felt for his character. Loneliness is such a common theme - more than we give it credit for and the movie absolutely captured that. But it was also so positive and gives hope of finding love. Scarlett Johansson was mind blowing. I think I am in love with her. Her beauty is in her simplicity and the ability to communicate without speaking a word. She is beautiful. I could go on and on about her for the whole post but will refrain from it for now and will leave you with a beautiful snap from the movie.

I have included a sampler of the song 'Alone in kyoto' which I found on the web while researching more about the group. You can have right download it and listen to it and if you do like it support them by buying their album

Enough about my rant about AIR.. i think you will be ranting about it as well once you hear the tracks and the music.

i also tried watching 'Avalon' but could not go through the whole movie because it was totally different in pacing and mood from 'lost in translation' and i could not go through it for it would have been unfair to the movie. It had some striking special effects, done on low budget and some of the visuals also had resembances to the other movie directed by Mamoru Oshii - 'Ghost in The Shell' which is one of my favorite movies of all time. But I will watch 'Avalon' again as a fresh movie, that way I won't be influenced by anything I have seen before hand.

Time flies...yesterday and today blended into one. Jamie helped in rebuilding the precision m60 from scratch again and loaded up avid, so that we can edit the movie now. When i tried installing it day before yesterday - it crashed the system and did a physical memory dump...figued that it must be the settings when it came in from dell. but now all is good and it is cool. Had a game of cricket with Matt today after the school and I won today's session - the cricket bat is now in my office. Thats the deal we have -whoever wins on that day gets the cricket bat. Also had a meeting with the editors for the weekly update and observation session, which went really well and am really happy the way this year is shaping up and the onlines are definitely getting better and the team work is fantastic.

I am trying to get some more good scenic locations for filming a couple of extra scenes for the indy film that I am doing. I will get to know on Monday if i am getting those locations or not. And the reason for adding the extra scenes - just a feeling that i would need a more gentle beginning to the movie to set the mood for the film and create a bigger bond between the lead characters. Making a movie is definitely such a vague and creative process - you start off with just ideas which you stitch together into a cohesive narrative...it is almost like the ideas find you. And as a director you are just a conduit - bringing those ideas to life according to what you envision. It is so much fun just being there as a medium and just focussing everyones energies towards bringing an idea to life. And what i am thinking is just a part of the whole process but it is definitely a personal thing and varies from person to person.

We had a 'crisis' at our flat when we found that our current landlord had sold the house to someone else but my other flatmates met the new landlord and nothing has changed..same rent and same conditions and stuff, so the crisis was prevented which would have meant trying to find a new house to stay.

anyway i think i will get back to enjoying a quite friday night and enjoy the memories of 'lost in translation'.

ciao
amit
