Blogs?
Should blogs be so personal??? And if they are not so personal -then whats the point of keeping them? I am sure every person who blogs faces the same question...i had already discussed my views on this in the post titled 'censorship' but the question has resurfaced after a comment from Grace -who said that by saying stuff about people, their reputations are on line and are brought to scrutiny by one and all. well - i do realize that what she said was pretty straightforward and true but a blog is supposed to be a personal view of things and not a sanitised, politically correct version of events which would suit everyone. Are they supposed to be informative? Or are they just supposed to be a marketing tool for promoting yourself? Or do they have a place at all in the scheme of things? Obviously this issue has affected me at a much deeper level than I thought. But on second thoughts - I am not writing stuff about random people that I haven't met or worse still i am not gossiping about stuff which does not concern me - professionally or personally.Finding an answer is such a difficult task and I think it is something which I will keep looking for. But as I said earlier - the idea of the blog is to write what I am going through - my experiences, the stuff and people with whom I am involved in. And I am gonna stay true to that.
And if you have more opinions on what blogs should be - feel free to drop in a comment or an email anytime.
cheers

Blogs should be personal I think and the personal, the more interesting they are. If you are willing to be open like that for any person that might accidentally stumble accross your blog then it's all good and fine.
As far as mentioning other people....well, I'm not so sure. I guess you have to respect that some people might not want to be mentioned online. I probably wouldn't mind being mentioned myself as long as it's not like, "Benji was making a total ass of himself today"...
I mean it'd be fine if you said that to my face but if you just put it online then somehow it would seem like gossip or like broadcasting things that I thought were personal business between you and I. Just an example.
So I guess it's prabably fine if you want to be personal about your blog but other people might get upset if they think you are publishing their personal stuff for the public. It's a hard line to walk.
Blogs need to be personal. Otherwise they're just not as good, imho. There's no point saying 'oh, today i did some stuff, with some people.' You need to write a blog as if you were telling any one of your friends who knows about your life what you've been up to. It just makes it so much more interesting. ;)
It is a strange thing writing perssonally in a public rhelm. But I think there is a sense of public confession of the confused state of mind in blogging.
Absolutely blogging should be personal! It is a brave person that can be personal and be open to ridicule, and cop it on the chin.
We are all just getting used to the human protocols within the internet, blogging is just part of feeling our way around this community.
Happy blogging!
Andrew
