Roger Dodger
'Great people discuss ideas while normal people discuss events'...or something similar to that...i read this quote somewhere and has stuck in my head for same strange reason. Thought that I would share it because it only shows us how mortal and suspectible we all are.Yesterday I saw the movie 'Roger Dodger', a movie written and directed by Dylan Kidd on Rialto and it was a really dark, complex and funny. The movie makes your cringe in your seats as you see the main protagonist, Roger, crash and burn while keeping up the facade of being smooth talking and all charm. I found the movie gripping and it never lets go right from the word go where Roger is talking about how men would become obslete in future society, to his colleagues. Powerful performances by the entire cast keeps the drama riveting. I had come across this movie a couple of times before but I had skipped it because of its name but it was a real surprise watching it. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a black comedy. You won't be disappointed.

The other movie which I am waiting for is 'Collateral' i think it is out in cinemas today and I will see it sometime soon. I am excited at the prospect of hollywood adapting HD as a medium. Film is an expensive medium and has served it's purpose - there will still be major blockbuster epics shot on film but i can foresee production companies and studios profiting from the use of cheaper technologies like HD. And I think it will also help smaller film industries like NZ, to develop and be able to tell their own stories.
Triangle TV's studio show is on again tomorrow and it will be interesting as usual - more so because a politician is appearing on the show as well...hmmm...i think this is the first time that I have ever seen a politician use an informecial show for their promotion strategy. Anyway - while you are still here you might like to check out the website of another film maker friend of mine, Mark Prebble- who is using the net as a way to finish off his first independent film 'Futile Attraction'.
Another piece of news I came across was that India has ordered a probe into Taj Mahal Tilt.It brought back memories -both of the visit to Taj Mahal as well as about my efforts to get access to archives at ASI, when I was working with Uday uncle. We were putting in a proposal for a 13 part Tv series called 'Monuments of Delhi' and doing the research primarily depended on getting access to archives of ASI -which proved to be one of the most frustrating and time consuming experiences. It does numb your mind but ultimately we got a little bit of info that we wanted. Good to see that the indian government is taking prompt action which is possibly one of the most astonishing monuments in the world.
Matt has ordered a 160GB Seagate external hard drive along with a USB/firewire enclosure to act as extra storage for the PrecisionM60. I am excited about it and am eagerly waiting for both of the machines - the M60 as well as the External drive, to arrive. Can't wait.
Ciao later
