In my father's den
It seems like ages since I have written a blog. Things have been happening so fast and stuff that just did not feel like writing. One of the nicest news is that the principal photography is complete for the movie and now it is onto post production. It was really kind of Stephanie and Tom to allow us to film at their house again. The weather forecast for the weekend wasn’t too great and it was supposed to be pouring down with rain on both Saturday and Sunday and we were filming the last scenes remaining on Sunday {2 of which were exterior scenes}.On location, we swapped the shooting order to do the interior scenes first and decided to shoot par of the exterior scene after lunch and then also made changes to the script so that the scene took place inside the house instead. All in all made some major scene changes to work around the weather. It was a fantastic shoot as we got everything done and also had time to shoot some extra stuff…and even then we finished 2 hours before schedule. It was a great feeling. When we were doing the last stuff, that is when Jono picked up Benji from the airport and brought him to the location. It was great seeing Benji after such a long time.
It felt really weird that we had finished off our principal photography –kind of surreal, thinking that we have actually shot all the scenes which were scripted down on paper. Now let us see how it all comes together in post production. I am excited because of Benji, it means fresh ideas and fresh eyes into the project. I think he has recovered from his jet lag. He will start digitizing from tomorrow as Lance will be bringing in the tapes today.
The other thing which has happened is the contact person from Britomart, the central train station in Auckland, offered us a display wall in the station to put up our production photos or posters, which is a fantastic marketing opportunity and free publicity for the movie. It is very kind of him to help us out and promote the independent film movement here in Auckland. I am sorting stuff out so that we put up production stills from the movie there by next week.
Yesterday evening, Benji and I went to see ‘In My Father’s Den’ and it was simply fantastic.
I was watching it for the second time and it is still as mind blowing as it is as it was the first time. It is probably one of the best kiwi films of all times. The pacing is so nice and so are the shot compositions and story structure and the oveall feel of the film. It was a really dark and powerful flm; it most definitely will shake everyone up. You actually have to watch it to believe it.
Anyway enough of my ramblings for now. Will keep you posted.
Ciao
Amit
