Interview and Alexander
Friday was exciting and damn hot. As I was saying in the last post - Amanda agreed to do a story on us and the movie and it happened on Friday, when she came along with Kelly -who photographed me for the article. It was exciting as it will be the first piece of press which will be printed. If all goes well, the issue will come out coming Wednesday - am waiting eagerly as I don't know what angle Amanda is gonna take for the story. I will put it up on the website once i scan the article in. The print after that would be the article in Indian Newslink - which will come out on 1st Feb. Friday was so hot that I had to come home and have a shower to cool down.Since my backpack was stolen and my only inhaler was in it - I was a little bit unsettled because I could sense that I would need it because of the heat, which usually triggers asthma sometimes. Greg, my flatmate was generous and gave me one of his puffs. Today I went and picked up the package which mom and dad sent back with one of the people who had taken a trip to India and it was perfect timing as i got some inhalers sent back and a couple of T-shirts which are absolutely fantastic.
I also went to Cherry Bomb Comics and got some comics. A special thanks goes out to Mellisa and Tui, who showed me around the books and also agreed to put up 2 of our promotional posters up at the shop. It is really cool of them to make that kind gesture. I bought 2 comics after a long long time and I am also interested in another comic - which i will probably buy next week. Found a really cool Indian place to eat - it is miles away but will make a special trip for that sometime.
Had a chat with Jamie in the evening and it was exciting because he is the first person who has seen the movie, not having been involved in any production work till now and he thinks the story works too...which is really cool...he is now moving it onto colour grading and specialFX and it is a thrill seeing so many talents being poured into the movie to make this a worthwhile effort. Music is falling into place and it is really exciting, seeing the movie coming together. The joy and feeling can be hardly expressed or put into words, however hard I try.
Helped Benji shift over to a new place, which is in Beach Haven. Also saw 'Alexander' and it was OK. Some fantastic moments and the movie does keep a grip on you but overall it still does not come off as a strong movie because of some inherent pacing/story structure problems. But the vision of the director is simply fantastic. It does have an epic feel and the performances by Val Kilmer as well as Colin Farrell are definitely high points of the movie. And the best thing of all was seeing the the image of horse clashing against elephant - a vision which had been stamped in my memory from childhood, while reading the Amar Chitra Katha comics on Alexander.
Top on my 'to do' list is to clean up my room. :-) with that thought i am off to bed.
cheers
amit
