Uprezing
Yesterday and today have been spent redigitizing the movie on a higher resolution. The offline edit was 28:1 rez and we are now getting back to DV420 resolution, so that we can start sharing files between different people involved with post production, ranging from colour grading to special efffects to graphics and obviously audio {though audio is already full rez even at 28:1}. It has been an interesting challenge, more so because the time code on the tapes seems to have gone out of synch with the time code we have on the timeline. Technically, it is hard to comprehend and should not happen - the only reason i can think of is a software bug or something. It is good that we are a couple of days ahead of schedule because now it will take us that extra amount of time to fix this unexpected challenge. I think we will uprez the movie to normal resolution, just in time in accordance with our original schedule. The pics gallery is working and managed to upload the pics onto the server after several headaches and emailing Brett, who got it working as usual. The pics from the trip to Motuihe Island are located
here. The one thing I forgot to mention in my other post was that when I was lying alone on the beach, enjoying the breeze and the seclusion from everything, I saw 2 aeroplanes - one a commercial airline and the other a small glider, nearly collide with each other. I would say that it was lucky that they did not hit each other because i think that the vertical distance between them while passing each other was less that 50 meters.. from the beach it looked as if they would definitely collide. I think the smaller aircraft made a last minute adjustment to avoid the crash. That was scary. And today, in the newspaper was an article that a private boat and a ferry collided in the straits near Motuihe Island...Read it here. What carelessness...
I have a vague concept of what I want to make as the next movie. I think I will start jotting down ideas and see where it leads. Have a couple of interesting ideas for some characters and since I want the genre to be 'sci-fi' it should be fun to see what happens. The other movie I really want to make is "Warren Hastings' Bull", a story i so absolutely love. The story was written by Uday uncle, with whom I worked for a couple of years when in India. He was the person who gave me my first break into media. The story was converted into a theatre play and has been performed by a leading theatre group in Delhi and was a commercial success, and after seeing the play I was so moved that I started translating the story from hindi to english and that lead to more short stories being translated. And one of the leading book publishers in India, Katha, compiled those short stories and printed it out as a book. And to have my name in the same breath as Bob chacha ji {Robert A. Hueckstedt - a world renowned translator} and Uday uncle {a tour de force in hindi literature} was not only a dream come true but an honour beyond all imagination. The magic of 'Warren Hastings' Bull' lies in its intricate sub structure and plot and the way it deals with so many issues at the same time while still retaining the facade of a normal story. The idea would be definitely to see if I can raise any money towards making that first. As a second option, I would love to make another digital feature to convince investors on my ability to handle feature length projects. Either way, I will give it my all to bring "Warren Hastings' Bull" alive onto the screens.
Anyway, enough dreaming for now. I think I will get back to work and make some more reality happen.
Amit
