Generation Y???
I am supposed to be a part of Generation 'Y' - the term sounds so strange because all through my MBA education all I could remember was using the term Generation 'X' but hmmmmm..... time does fly fast I guess. Whats been happening over the past few days?Well, had to go to the media launch of 'Asia Film festival' -which was kind of cool but there were some hiccups - they forgot to publish Lance's name as a producer in the programmer booklets - which was a little strange because both Lance and me are the producers and it is not just me. And the other thing which bothered me was the 2 small clips shown from the movie to highlight the movie as part of the press kit from Asia Film Festival, were not the greatest and one of them was a really weak shot {which you don't notice in the overall scheme of things but for me watching it on screen was excruciatingly painful - I am sure Lance will agree to it}... But besides that it was a nice event -got to meet a few people, whom I had either lost touch with or whom I had wanted to meet. Still trying to push the publicity drive and hopefully will make some kind of progress the coming week.
My exercise routine at the gym has been split and remodified - which makes it much more challenging and I am looking forward to doing it. Today has just flown by in household duties - cleanin up laundry, room, dishes... Also deciding between the offers put forward by another 2 american distributors - have to decide soon though.
I had submitted 'Memories' to NZ Screen Awards 2005 under the digital feature category and it looks like that they have recieved the minimum 5 entries required for that particular category to go ahead. But guess what, any chance we might have had just disappeared - I just checked out their website and Sony is sponsoring the prizes for that category while our feature has been made on a Panasonic... heeheeee....what an irony...Life has a nice sense of humor.
Read some more comics - 'Batman/Spiderman: The Age Dawning' ; 'Ultimate Spiderman Super Special' ; 'Superman V/s Terminator' ; 'Batman - The Killing Joke'. The more I read the comics, the more interesting Batman's character becomes interesting while Superman is bland - he is not interesting at all. Spiderman is again a complex character. I still can't understand how Superman got so popular inspite of being such a weak character {atleast in all the comics that I have read till now}. Except for 'Superman V/s Terminator' all the other comics were really nice and had strong storylines {atleast better than SM V/S T}.
In another significant news - Uday uncle's short story -translated into English by Jason Grunebaum as ‘Girl with Golden Parasol’ has received one of the most reputed awards given for translations from contemporary world literature - PEN translation award {the current president for PEN Translation Fund is Salman Rushdie}. PEN Translation Fund, is a reputed literary organization based in New York and is committed to give support and promotion to most promising world voices in the field of creative writing through giving those grants, finding publishers and helping in translation projects. So this is fantastic news...definitely more recognition for Uday uncle -whose writings are touching and emotional, and these are the same writings which get embroiled in controversy and politics of hindi literature {whats new with that?}. You can check out one of his collection of short stories published by Katha Publications HERE
Anyway - will have more to update once I have the netball game tomorrow. :-)
Till then
Amit
