Empire of the Sun

Finally managed to watch 'Empire of the Sun' and it was a spellbinding film. The movie is slower paced but is epic in nature. And the best thing about the movie was Christian Bale -who is fantastic as a child through whose eyes we see the fascination as well as horrors of war. The cinematography was fantastic as well and really liked how the bigger shots were used with a purpose insted of doing it just because it looks cool. I guess it is the slow pace which stopped the movie from being a commercial success but if we take into account the asian storytelling -then it is well paced.

How am I feeling at this stage? Shattered...the back pain has eased off but is still there. To add to it I now have a groin injury from today's netball game {Lance got a major nerve pull injury on his right hand}, so now it is hard to walk...It keeps on coming eh :-)We lost our netball game today - we are either considering getting growth hormones so we can become taller or start playing on stilts as our height was a big disadvantage in today's game as well. We are starting to gel together as a team again but still rusty and things will keep improving from this point in. A funny incident which took place at the netball centre was a 7 year old kid walked upto me and sat by my side for a few minutes and made small talk -after 5 minutes odd -he observed solemnly - "Your head is really small." I replied back "Well you should see the size of my brain." But he did not get the joke and left me after making his quieter observations on life. I chuckled away for a while.

There are so many things happening around me but somehow I feel a little bit of restlessness and impatience to start off the next project. I want to improve on things I have learnt from 'Memories' and I really want to experiment with things I have in my head. And I do want to try and make a commercial movie which will get released in a theatre. Movie making is as much of a business as it is creative story telling. Overall - I think 'Memories' is good for what it is but it is still not commercial enough or random enough to get a theatrical release - it falls somewhere in between.

Anyway - i think I will go to bed now - dreaming, thinking, contemplating.
