Movie Marathon

It is only Tuesday but it feels like it is already Thursday for some reason… The winter is really setting in and there is a certain chill in the air. You can tell that when the neighbour’s dog keeps whining all the time – especially towards the evening. Not a day passes when I keep reminding myself that I need to buy myself a new blanket to support my existing blanket but I keep forgetting it – maybe I will remember and get around to it this weekend.

I have been watching so many movies – like a man crazed. I have lost track a couple of movies that I watched {no I am not getting old…I would blame it on the cold}. I will try and list the movies and comments I recently watched.

Privates on Parade
Verdict: Boring; I did fall asleep while watching the movie. The only interesting parts were with John Cleese but I could not keep myself awake 25 minutes into the movie.

Batman Begins
Verdict: Still love it; {again???} well – I had a free movie pass, so I could not resist the opportunity. Picked up on few more things, that were intricately woven into the storyline.

Hellboy
Verdict: Entertaining; It loses its momentum and path 2/3rd’s into the movie and never recovers but still entertaining for most part. Surprise was the actual Hellboy character acted by Ron Perlman – loved the character..

Beyond Borders
Verdict: Moving; Unlike a Hollywood movie – this did hold my attention through out and it almost made me cry, looking at the crisis that man has created for himself. Clive Owen rocks..

Laura
Verdict: Run; Bad 80’s movie..picked it up at random and was driven mad by the bad 80’s music in it.

Khakhee
Verdict: Long and tedious; a hindi movie – which I heard from a few people that it was good, saw it at the video store and picked it up. This is a bollywood blockbuster and though better than most other movies has several strengths and weaknesses. Strengths – Amitabh Bachchan has fantastic screen presence, first full out negative role portrayal by Ajay Devgan, nicely executed action sequences. Weaknesses - Aishwarya Rai – don’t know what she is doing in the movie {either she is over rated as an actress or she did not really give a toss about this movie}; over the top dialogue delivery and acting; long and tiring because of the multi-layered but thin storyline. Surprises – some good cinematography, tusshar kapoor’s believable acting.

The Cooler
Verdict: Absolutely loved it; Maria Bello is hot, Alec Baldwin is menacing, William H. Macy is a genius and the way the movie plays out is endearing and hilarious. A must watch if you haven't seen it.

Garden State
Verdict: Absolutely loved it; I loved it, loved it, loved it… fantastic cinematography, really funny but heart touching script, fantastic acting by Zach Braff and Natalie Portman {a far cry from her wooden acting in SW3} and best of all – a gentle but engrossing pace.

Those were the movies I could remember – I am sure that there are another couple of movies that I can’t recall. The next couple of movies that I will be watching over the next couple of days will be Infernal Affairs {a record breaking HK Film now being remade into English by Martin Scorsesse} and The Station Agent – and I am looking forward to watching both of the movies.

It is a busy week and will be a long one as well. Last couple of days at school has been meetings and preparations for the next term which starts from next week. Plus there is an education fair coming up on Friday and Saturday at which the school will be conducting practical workshops, so it will be busy over the next couple of days.

The next season of netball starts from the coming monday and I am thrilled- can't wait to get back into the game. It will be a different venue though.

Curious about your absolute love of Garden State... no, please don't hate me, I liked it alot. It felt very much, however, like a first movie. I'm curious about your opinion, being a first-time feature maker yourself, what you could have done with his budget, Natalie Portman and a day job on a the TV show scrubs?

Keep it up.
