Happy!!!

I am an extremely happy man today. The first package from amazon.com arrived carrying ‘Fray’ and the novelization of ‘Serenity’ – I can’t wait to tear into Fray but Serenity – I am leaving till I see the movie (just another month before it’s release here…sigh…). I am sure that my package from TFAW.com – the 3 part mini-series of Serenity Comics, is bound to arrive anytime soon. Besides that my travel insurance came through and I am now fully covered for the travel. I just started reading the 3 part mini-series “Twilight” written by Howard Chaykin and it is again a fantastic read. Totally unexpected and pulls you into a completely different world. I am now torn between first completing ‘Twilight’ or putting it on hold to finish off ‘Fray’ first..

I just got back from watching 'The World's Fastest Indian' and it is a fantastic movie. It is one of those movies which you want it to go on for some more time but it ends. And there was a deep sigh through out the theatre when the movie ended after the race get completed. It is by far one of the top NZ movies I have seen and is right up there along with 'In My Father's Den'. It has some minor flaws like taking too much time in the beginning to establish relationships but overall the time simply flies away real quick. It is definitely a feel good movie and does invoke strong emotions within.

The thing I always loved about watching movies in the cinemas was the trailers which screen before the movie. This year not many trailers have caught me by surprise and I have to say I loved the trailer for 'The Constant Gardner' - it is well edited and the intensity just takes you by surprise. On the other hand - the trailer of 'The Legend of Zorro' just looked bad and I have no inclination whatsoever of seeing that movie.

The funny thing that happened was I forgot to lock my car when I parked it on the road - I realized it only after I came back after watching the movie. It still amazes me sometimes that we still have some luxury in New Zealand regarding integrity of the people or maybe my car is too much of a dump for anyone to be tempted to steal it. :-)

I also watched 'Behaviours of the Backpacker' - a kiwi documentary by Sandor Lau. It is an interesting documentary - not because of how the documentary is intended to play out but because of some of the talents and their views on things. Being objective - I can say that the documentary is technically flawed at places and though the topic was an interesting idea - it never really translates into a cohesive doco - it is quite fractured in it's pacing and pretentious at places with a forced narrative. The biggest plus point in favour of the doco is the topic itself and the effort by Sandor to stick to his 'mission' and do it himself. There are some cool visuals in there but in the end the doco didn't quite do it for me, despite some reviews in the media which hail it as a singular achievement.

Anyway - Doug recommended that I watch 'The Consequences of Love' and will try and catch the movie this saturday. The other movie that I want to watch is '2046' which I will try and catch over the long weekend which is due the next weekend..

Will take leave for now. And do watch 'The World's Fastest Indian' if you get a chance - it is a good watch.

Ciao,
Amit

THE CONSTANT GARDENER is really good, although slightly more technically impressive than emotionally resonant.

Have you seen IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE? You should definitely see it before 2046 ... I have a copy of ITMFL that I'm meaning to rewatch, as I'd like to see 2046 on the big screen again. (I saw it once at the festival ... but it was really, really good!)
