Interviews

This is another significant post - in a manner of speaking - it is precisely 1 year since I started blogging and it is amazing how fast the year has flown by and even amazing that I am still sharing my thoughts here.

The whole day today disappeared into interviews for potential students for next year and I must say it is always an engaging experience seeing people from so varied backgrounds interested in applying themselves to media. There were some really talented people in there and my feeling is that next year is going to shape up really good. Each year at South Seas is different because of the people from different cultures, countries and backgrounds and each class forms its own unique feel every year. And everytime I sit in on one of the interviews I remember what I love so much about my job - the feeling of getting to know completely random and talented people {who soon become friends} working towards the same purpose; the exhiliration of daring to dream and then aiming to convert that dream into a reality.

I am kicking myself as I missed out on getting the tickets to the charity premiere of 'The World's Fastest Indian' by whiskers. I opened up the local magazine to find the annoucement that there was a screening at 7:30 PM and so I promptly gave the cinema theatre a ring to see if the tickets were still available but was told that the tickets sold out 5 minutes back...Damn!!!!

Listened to some music pieces/samples from a potential composer for the next movie and was thrilled to bits because the various samples captured different emotions and opened up my mind to imagination, visuals and wonder. I don't know if the music composer is coming on board the project yet but if he does then it would be a big step as it is always hard to find a composer who gets the pulse of that particular project. I was lucky with music composers for 'Memories' but it still took no less than 5 people to help score the movie and it worked because of the different character rhythms within the movie. But this time I want to have it more contained and have one composer {or a maximum of two} to shape the music as a whole. I will let you know as soon as I get to know on whats happening with the music side of things.

Other than that..a frosty day to say the least. Pouring down hail, storm and thunder {not literally but pretty close..} and amidst that comes the news that NZ has been voted 'Favorite place on earth' by more than 25,000 people polled by London's Daily Telegraph Newspaper. I have to heartily agree. Even after nearly 3 years in the country, I still think it is paradise on earth.

The only other piece of news which makes me ga-ga is that Peter Jackson & Fran Walsh will be producing 'Halo' - which means more work coming to New Zealand and creating/sustaining the jobs within the NZ Film Industry. It is almost an envious position where the money is coming from abroad and the reliance on Film Commission funding is minimal to zilch. Imagine what 'Halo' would be like if NZFC came to funding it.....bbrrrr....dread to think about that.

Goodnight.
Amit
