Roadshow
The highlight of the day has been the JVC roadshow held at Spencer on Byron Hotel and Darryn had arranged 12 passes for the students - 6 for camera operators and 6 for editors. There were some lucky draw prizes and guess what - one of the editors won a 14" TV while another 2 won 10 HDV tapes and I won 10 HDV tapes... We were cracking up laughing because it was supposed to be a camera operators event but all the editors end up winning all these things. As for the product itself - the only real benefit I can see is that it has interchangeable lenses but other than that it is a half ass way of trying to compete within the prosumer range. I would prefer a Panasonic HVX200 which gives native HD at 100 MBps with 4:2:2 sampling rather than the JVC HD100 which has 19MBps transfer with a 4:2:0 sampling.I went and bought myself 3 bandanas to support the bandana week being organized by canteen and I hope that anyone reading this in NZ would help support a cause that is a marvellous way of giving some hope to the dying. I kept getting these ridiculous comments on wearing the bandana though - the good part was that it definitely helped raise the awareness a little bit; hopefully the enthusiasm will rub off and some more people will get themselves some bandanas.
I finally heard back from one other national newspaper saying that they did not want to carry our story or give us any pubilicity - reasons: no space and if space becomes available, they would rather carry a 'big' story. On one hand it makes me mad that they don't want to give any publicity to up and coming artists, if they are not carried over by some publicists or close internal contacts but on the other hand it just strengthens my resolve to try and break this circle with the next movie.
Anyway bye for now,
Amit
