McLibel
Today has been extremely busy and just flew away in the studio shows at school. Tomorrow is going to be another extremely long day - especially with a guest lecture scheduled later in the evening. I took loads of photographs today - mainly work related - to go into the school pics database but I also managed to find 2 artistic images admist the chaos.I watched another great documentary today - it was called 'McLibel'. It was a David V/s Goliath court case between Helen and David against McDonald Corporation in UK. The UK Libel system has many loopholes giving corporations more power imaginable than can be thought over anyone who criticizes them. So Helen and David were taken to court by McDonald for not apologizing to McDonalds over distributing pamphlets about some facts about McDonalds - which McD alleges are false. The court case became the longest court case in UK and finally ended in 1997. The matter went further into the European Court of Human Rights against the UK government for breaching the rights to freedom of speech. What the decisions on both the cases were- you will have to watch the documentary or check out the McSpotlight website. As a documentary it was both inspiring and informative. Hats off to 2 people who fought for freedom of speech and most definitely suffered a lot for it - even though they put a brave face.
Till later,
Amit
