Sound
Sound is so important - sometimes we like to hear things and sometimes we don't.On Wednesday, I had a micro-surgery that was related to solving my snoring problem and it was surprisingly painless and went well. I will know in a couple of weeks if the treatment is working or not - otherwise I will have to go in for a follow up treatment. It is an operation called SnoreOp and you can check out the details here. The good thing which came out the surgery was that I wasn't supposed to eat anything hot for 2 days, so all I had for the past 2 days has been ice cream, cold drinks and sushi. It is a tough life sometimes.(:-)
Anita will soon be away traveling, so we did her dialogue re-recording for some tricky scenes in 'Five' yesterday night and it was great. Dialogue re-recording is always hard because you have to get into the same mind frame and tone as when you shot the original footage. The purpose of doing it is simple - to fix some of the audio problems we had from the location - things you can't anticipate like character dialogue overlapping to sound peaking to noise interference with dialogue from various external sources. It was a long night as we spent about 3 and half hours doing 8 of Anita's scenes - some complex and some simple. Hats off to Benji again who built up this improvised make-shift sound booth where we were getting relatively dead sound. The further set of ADR's with the other cast will be intense by the look of things. When you start isolating things - it is amazing how many elements come into play in a movie. I think sound is definitely going to lift the movie up heaps and this is the point which can make or break the movie.
I had a rough cut screening with the gumtree gang this evening at Ian's place. Ian kindly agree to it and also set up a fantastic snack table, which was yummy. The reaction to the movie was great. There are a couple of moments that I need to work on but otherwise the movie hit them at the right spots and the tension build up and release was great. It was a satisfying experience and now have to see how the reaction is from the rough cut screening to random people on Tuesday evening.
I watched 'Crank' and 'Happy Feet' yesterday and enjoyed both of them. 'Crank' was a different kind of an action movie - it was stylistic and definitely a fast paced movie. It doesn't overstay it's welcome and I must say the action sequences are really well executed. 'Happy Feet' on the other hand was such a cute movie - it has a heart to it and doesn't end up being just another factory shop animation. I think it truly deserves it's Oscar for that category.
Department of Internal Affairs, finally got back to me confirming that the info I had provided has been verified by NZIS - which means that the 3 year rule will apply in my case (instead of the 5 year rule). That's a big relief and I have sent in my birth certificate, which will complete all the documentation formalities. Now have to wait and see how long it takes before I am given a New Zealand Citizenship.
Will leave you with a couple of pics I took yesterday morning when Auckland was all fogged up. I took these at 11.00 in the morning and you can still see the fog over the city. Winters' already here?
Till later,
Amit
