Manufacturing Dissent
I watched an interesting documentary 'Manufacturing Dissent' that on the surface follows Michael Moore - the director of such hits as 'Bowling for Columbine' and 'Fahrenheit 9/11' but what it really explores is the celebrity culture in Hollywood and how megalomania can easily be overlooked. I liked 'Bowling for Columbine' and never watched 'Fahrenheit 9/11' as I didn't like the opinionated style of documentary film making anymore. After watching 'Manufacturing Dissent' I really do dislike Michael Moore because I don't believe that end justifies the means - especially in documentaries where the rule is simple: show the truth as it is. It is a good documentary for one simple reason - it doesn't distort the reality to prove a point, it rather presents what is happening and everything does happen in front of the cameras. The film makers were in fact fans of Michael Moore and of what he was trying to achieve with his work but as the movie progresses a completely different picture emerges about their 'hero'. It is a fascinating documentary and a reality check for people who can't see beyond the sheet of publicity and public image. An interesting website that came out of the documentary was 'Moorewatch'I got a few more movies to watch but at the same time I look around my room and think 'Shit...it is clean up time again' and to top it my list of things to do has grown longer. Topmost amongst which is the further script development for 'Ghost Scream' and following a close second is replying to emails that are now almost a month old now.
Hmmmm.....
