Film Festival
July is turning out to be a movie month. The international film festival is upon us (from tomorrow actually) and I am taking part in a bit more than the usual movie watching spree. I was talking to Kate from SDGNZ {which I am a member of} about putting my profile up on their website and she asked me if I wanted to be the host contact for one of the film director's that they are bringing in for the festival. I readily agreed to it because it is a fantastic opportunity to meet another film maker and that too from a different country. It turns out that the director is Adam Wingard, who made the ultra low budget indie feature, Pop Skull, which is screening as part of the incredibly strange section of the film festival.Needless to say I am excited and SDGNZ have been kind enough to give me a couple of free passes to Pop Skull as well as to the premiere of Apron Strings, a new NZ movie. Plus they also put my profile up on their website, which is a bonus as it gives me a little bit of exposure - something that is so crucial for my survival as a film maker, especially at this stage. A lifeline. And I just went and ahead and booked my movie tickets to the one's I am paying to watch. So it is all happening.
I watched 'The Kite Runner' yesterday and it turned out to be an alright movie. The performances from the kids is fantastic; almost beyond belief. But what let's the movie down is the emotional journey/acting of the guy who plays the older Amir. It is still an interesting watch.
That's me for now.
Later,
Amit
