Movies Update
I totally forgot to write about the movies I have seen recently - mainly because I didn't feel like writing about movies for a while.Felon : A good prison drama. Some nice performances from Stephen Dorff and Val Kilmer. An entertaining watch. Don't expect too much and you'll enjoy it.
Sharkwater: It is a beautifully shot documentary about Sharks and their place in the eco system and how it is impacting on us. It is amazing how as individuals and societies we can become so complacent and short sighted. It is definitely worth a watch to understand...(read more) how close we are to causing irreversible damage to our living environment.
Doomsday: Fragmented and insipid effort that runs an interesting idea into the ground. Wrong step by Neil Marshall who made the excellent 'The Descent'.
The X Files: I Want to Believe: One of the trashiest movies I have seen in a long time. A prime example of how to club your audience to death by repeating the same scenes over and over again but in different locations. Very bad script. It put me off X-Files forever since they have decided not to follow the alien mythology storyline anymore.
Wanted: Another mindless action flick - all style, no substance and a dumb plot. It made a fair chunk of money at the B.O so now we will get endless sequels. So much for sub-text and story etc..etc..which are all essential parts of a movie. Grrrrr...
And finally,
Tropic Thunder: It is a hilarious in-joke which you'll laugh at if you know how the film industry works in general. It is funny in parts and the production values are awesome. The best part of the movie is probably Tom Cruise - he just about brings the house down in the limited time he is on the screen. And the pseudo trailers at the start of the movie just about set the tone for the movie. Robert Downey Jr. is good and so are Ben Stiller, Brandon Jackson and Jay Baruchel but Jack Black is wasted in a role that could have been played by anyone.
